CLINIC ACCEPTANCE INFORMATION

  • Clinic acceptance decisions are determined by each individual clinic using clinic-specific acceptance criteria.
  • Clinics often give preference to applicants who have listed the particular clinic as their first choice.
  • It is important that you indicate the strength of your preferences, if any, among the clinics that you ranked (e.g. "strong preference for #1, no difference between #2 & #3" or "little difference between #1 & #2").

The first priority date for students to apply is Friday, November 8th at noon.  After November 8th, applicants will be considered on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.  Offers to students who have been selected for enrollment into a clinic will generally begin to be extended on Friday, November 8th at 5:00 pm.  Certain clinics may offer you enrollment before November 8th.  Students will have until Monday, November 11th at noon to accept an enrollment offer.  You will generally have 24 hours to accept an enrollment offer from a clinic, although you may request more time to reply if you are waiting to hear back from another clinic.  In such cases, you may wait until Monday, November 11th at noon to accept the offer of your choice.  Your previous offer(s) will remain secure during this period.

Once you accept an offer with a clinic, you must withdraw any outstanding applications to all other UC Hastings clinics or externship positions within 24 hours. The only exception is if you wish to seek concurrent enrollment in both the clinic whose offer you accepted and another clinic, externship, or Startup Legal Garage module. Concurrent enrollment in more than one clinic, externship, or Startup Legal Garage module in a single semester requires a waiver by the Associate Academic Dean of the general prohibition on taking more than one in a semester. For more information on how to pursue a waiver, click here Links to an external site.. Because of the time commitment required by most clinics, few clinics will consent to concurrent enrollment in another clinic, externship, or Garage module. For Spring 2020, only the Environmental Clinic, Mediation Clinic, and Workers Rights Clinic are potentially amenable to such an arrangement.

You cannot accept an offer with one clinic, keep your application active or remain on the waitlist of another clinic, and then drop the clinic you accepted if an opening arises in the other clinic or an externship. This is a matter of professionalism and courtesy. Clinics must be able to rely on acceptances of enrollment offers, for they make commitments to clients and projects based on students' acceptances.
